Located at 936 Clark Drive<\/strong>, Melk will be opening its doors alongside NOT YOURS<\/strong>, a retail store offering a range of home goods, desktop accessories, cameras, and more.<\/p>\n

The 26th annual Culture Crawl is almost here, where over 500 artists and creatives open their doors to the public. The Crawl, as it is affectionately known, is an accessible and fun experience for art lovers and first-time visitors alike and is taking place this year from Thursday, Nov 17 \u2013 Sunday, Nov 20. Join us at the 936 Clark Drive studios for our Friday Night Social (formerly known as Thirsty Thursday) \u2014 a free local event hosted by Melk, Ecstatic, Shrapnel, and Not Yours, from 5 \u2013 10 PM on Friday, Nov 18.<\/p>\n
Friday Night Social is a free event for neighbours, creatives, local businesses, and patrons of the Eastside Culture Crawl. Friday Night Social is a refreshing evening built to connect our neighbourhood’s varied talents and cultivate connection by creating a space for people to meet, find inspiration amongst peers, and share stories. We feature a local artist and local purveyor of beer, wine, or spirits each year. This year, we will be showcasing the hand-crafted work of Melk Art & Design and the Not Yours shop, and we are thrilled to have local brewery Luppolo Brewing Co. on board again for this November’s event.<\/p>\n
“At Luppolo, our beer is equally as important as the atmosphere created in our lounge. The seasonal event was created in 2014 and is held at 936 Clark Drive. Its vision; to cultivate connection in our community by creating space for people to meet, find inspiration amongst peers, and share stories. It\u2019s a refreshing way to learn more about the people in your community and connect varied talents of our neighbourhood.<\/span><\/p>\n
Each Thirsty Thursday event features a local artist or musician, and purveyor of beer, cider, wine or spirits. Our partner at this years event is Loppolo<\/a> brewery and we will be showcasing the hand-crafted work of Melk Art & Design. <\/span><\/p>\n

From the 17th – 20th of November Vancouver’s eastside will be lit with the annual Eastside Culture Crawl and this year is proudly celebrating 20 years of art, design and crafts; bound by Columbia Street, 1st Avenue, Victoria Drive and the waterfront. For Melk it will be our 10th year being involved in crawl, so naturally we\u2019re making sure that our presence is a big one.<\/span><\/p>\n
For the past two years we’ve host the Crawling for Kids<\/i> workshop at our studio \u2014 a free hands on creativity session for young artists \u2014 we’re excited to be hosting another year with the support of\u00a0Opus Art Supplies,<\/a><\/span> and hope to see some familiar faces again and new budding artists for this years workshop.<\/p>\n*
Crawling for Kids <\/i>is generously sponsored by our friends at Opus Art Supplies<\/a>, and gives children the opportunity to engage with the visual arts in their community on a tactile level while helping foster a love of the arts; connecting them with the Crawl in a way that they will\u00a0remember for years to come. Kids are invited to create their own works of art and learn the basic\u00a0printmaking techniques of screen-printing. The workshop is held at our studio at 936 Clark Drive; an area where the kids can experience their own creativity in a unique studio space with guidance from a working artist. We, alongside the rest of the Eastside Culture Crawl, believe it\u2019s very important to cultivate a strong sense of art and community with children; the future generations of artists.<\/span>

\nTime:<\/strong> 12 – 3PM
\nProcess:<\/strong> Young artists will have access to watercolour paints, pencil crayons and stencil shapes to create a background or landscape for their work-of-art. Next they choose an image to screen-print (illustrations provided by the artist and already on screens). With guidance from the artist kids will screen-print their chosen illustration on their own.
\nResult:<\/strong> A custom work of art to bring home, or opportunity to make special cards for the holidays!

\u2028melk art & design aren’t the only one\u2019s celebrating this year\u2019s Eastside Culture Crawl in our studio at 936 Clark! We\u2019re joined by three other companies; Abbot of Cordova<\/a>, Jon Janzen Craft<\/a> and Shrapnel Design<\/a>. We\u2019ll be profiling each of these companies leading up to the Culture Crawl, so stay tuned!<\/p>\n
\u2028\u2028Jon Janzen<\/a> is an artist and designer from Ladner, BC. He is currently working as a designer for Ecstatic Design + Communication in East Vancouver. Jon keeps a strong art portfolio alongside freelance art, design and photography. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Jon’s roots in the plains of small town Saskatchewan and his formative years on the West Coast have bloomed into an authentic creative perspective inspired by nature and craftsmanship. This is combined with heavy influences in graphic design and typography.

As a way to celebrate our unique, wonderful community, melk is partnering with MET Fine Printers<\/a> to display an interactive, community-driven installation to celebrate the Eastside Culture Crawl. November 20 to 23, we invite you into our studio to share your wish for the future, whether it be tomorrow, next month, next year, or twenty years from now. The wish can be personal, for the community, or on a global scale. \u2028\u2028Once the wish has been written or drawn on a card, it can be added to melk\u2019s hanging wave sculpture. The goal of this installation is to create a \u201csocial sculpture\u201d, an entity shaped by members of our community.<\/p>\n
After the Eastside Culture Crawl, the wishes will be shared over the upcoming months. A glimpse into the diverse cultural landscape of East Vancouver, capturing the aspirations of one of Vancouver\u2019s fastest-growing neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n
